Joachim was born around Kittsee (Kopčany / Köpcsény), near Bratislava and Eisenstadt, today's Burgenland area. Within 1833 his family moved to Budapest, where he experienced fiddle lessons from either a age of 5. He went within to survey in Vienna and Leipzig, where he was mentored by Felix Mendelssohn.
